Why USA Basketball Will Go Undefeated

First off, Team USA Basketball is not the Dream Team. The commentators and analysts of the Olympics are really annoying me when they say things like "Kevin Durant of the Dream Team." There was only one Dream Team and that was the team of 1992. That is no knock at all to this year's team which is still overall great, just not as dominant or great as the Dream Team. Now let me step off my soapbox and get to the point:

Team USA Basketball will go undefeated

As for all of the questions surrounding this team and their lack of size, I have one answer for all of those questions. Lebron James. It seems that whenever Team USA is in need of a key bucket or a run, King James comes up big. He has taken his championship winning mindset to London and oppositions beware. The only difference is instead of an injured Dyane Wade he has Kevin Durant in his prime. Instead of his pet dinosaur, Chris Bosh, he has Carmelo Anthony. Instead of broke back Mike Miller he has a rejuvenated Kobe. If you are wondering why Kobe is so rejuvenated let's just say it might not have much to do with his wife Vanessa. I hear Kobe has been having more than his share of fun in the Olympic Village this year.
Kobe didn't become the second leading scorer by just sitting around
Or did he?

However that is besides the point. This USA team may lack the size that the other international teams have, but I would take Lebron, Kobe, and Durant over the Gasol brothers and Ibaka any day. America is too good on the defensive side of the ball and too prolific of scorers to lose this year. What they lack in size they make up for with speed and athleticism. This team is not the sort of team that is going to blowout every team they face. They just don't have the dominance in the paint to do so. They are built to run teams, and that is what they have been doing so far this summer.

When Team USA is on we see 83-point blowouts. Poor Nigeria. And when they are not hitting shots like they would like it turns into close games. The problem for other teams is the fact that Team USA is going to be tough to beat in the closing minutes. Lithuania gave the Americans a scare, but Lebron took over in the 4th quarter to lead Team USA to victory. Lebron will continue to show up when he is needed, and America will not lose a game this summer. Even with all of the hype surrounding them, they are poised to win gold and there is no team strong enough to get in their way.
Expect to see this again soon.

Team USA has an upcoming showdown with Argentina this Monday to complete pool play and I expect this one not to be close. Argentina is led by San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, and they have a pretty decent squad around him. And by decent I mean dirty. This is going to be physical and trying game, but America has the more skilled athletes and Argentina does not stand a chance.

Make sure you tune in to watch Team USA take on Argentina Monday, August 6.
