Why Adrian Peterson Will Break Eric Dickerson's Record

Matthew Stockman/Getty Images

4 reasons Adrian Peterson will make history

On Christmas Eve of 2011 in a victory over the Washington Redskins, Adrian Peterson tore both his ACL and MCL. This left physicians nationwide predicting with such a serious injury, he would not be back on the field at full health until December of this year.

Adrian Peterson had other plans.

Instead of making a return this holiday season like many predicted, he is making a push for the history books.  Peterson is 294 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson's record for most rushing yards in a season (2,105) Peterson currently stands at 1,812 yards and is confident in his chances.

Why should he not be?

With only 2 games left in the season, these are the 4 reasons Adrian Peterson will run for the record.

1   He is on FIRE

Peterson has rushed for over 100 yards in eight consecutive games including going for over 200 yards twice. In that span he has averaged 7.46 yards per carry while racking up nine touchdowns. He has also had two huge runs for over 80 yards in the past three games. He is definitely in top form.

With the record 294 yards away Peterson needs to average 147 yards per game. That is not far off from his season average (129.4) and 45 yards less than his December average (192). If his December average keeps up he will finish with a whopping 2,196 yards on the season beating the record with ease.

With this next point, that number doesn’t seem too farfetched.

2  He has only been getting stronger

Adrian Peterson’s splits according to ESPN.com prove that as this season has progressed, Peterson’s game has done the same

After an average start, he picked up his play to an elite level. With Peterson looking better than ever, I don’t see the Texans, Packers, or even his knees having a shot at stopping him.

The Texans rushing defense is overrated

The Texans are coming into Sunday’s matchup with the 5th overall rushing defense allowing 93.2 yards per game.

Texans slightly overrated defense
This stat could look intimidating, but taking a closer look, the Texans’ opponents have not rushed the ball many times at all.

In fact the Texans have allowed the fewest rushing attempts in the NFL this year thanks to their offense blowing teams of the water each game. The opposing team is forced to abandon the running game early on to play catch up.

Houston allows 4.1 yards per carry, which ranks 12th in the league. This is a more accurate depiction of the Texans ability to stop the run.

This places the Texans at an slightly above average run defense and considering what Peterson did to the Seahawks 10th ranked run defense (182 yards, 2 TDs) I don’t see the Texans being much of a halt to the one they call “All Day”

4  Adrian Peterson owns the Packers (Statistically)

Though the Vikings have been only 3-8 against the Packers since Adrian Peterson's arrival, he has still put up dominating stats on the ground.

In week 13 this year, Peterson racked up 210 yards with a whopping 10 yards per carry in Green Bay. Though it came in a losing effort, Peterson looked unstoppable for the majority of the game. This has been the norm for Peterson throughout his career.

In 11 career games against Green Bay, Adrian Peterson has 1,243 yards rushing (Most against any NFL team) with a 5.6 yards per carry average.

With an exception of a couple one sided affairs where the Vikings had to play catch up by passing predominantly, Peterson has preformed at a prime level when facing the rival Packers. With the all-time rushing title on the line, I expect no difference.

Francena McCorory: Road to Gold

Myself and McCorory in Hampton University's Armstrong Stadium

Interview with gold medal winner Francena McCorory

In the London Olympics this past summer, Hampton alumna, Francena McCorory represented for Hamptonians and the USA by winning a gold medal in the women’s 4×4.
McCorory ran a 49.39 split time as the third leg and propelled the USA to a four second victory over Russia.
“We were trying to break the world record, and we were a second off,” McCorory said.
Even being a second off, the Hampton native was more than prepared for the hand-off of the baton and her run.
“Just to get it around the track, so we can finish. I saw that we had a really big lead but for some reason I was running so hard anyways,” McCorory said.
London was not strictly work for McCorory; she also made time to meet new people thoroughly enjoy herself. “I always like to meet Usain Bolt, he is really fun and he has a lot of personality,” McCorory said. Also she confessed that she “pigged out” at the McDonalds buffet in the Olympic Village after winning the gold medal.
After becoming a gold medalist, McCorory justified her hard work that begin once she realized the Olympics were a possibility.
“I ran track in high school and my senior year I broke the national high school record in the 400 meter dash indoor,” said McCorory. “That’s when I realized that I could make a career out of it.”
As for her time at Hampton University, McCorory had a ball. Her favorite memories at Hampton were attending Holland jams, but she didn’t spend all of her time partying. As a college athlete she set the NCAA indoor record in the 400 meter run with a time of 50.54.
McCorory took a break from training after being involved in two car accidents. These experiences helped her prepare for London.
“I just kept pushing forward because I always knew this was my dream,” McCorory said.
God willing, McCorory plans on competing at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic games.

Heat Defeat Celtics: Recap and What We Learned

The Miami Heat topped the Celtics in Miami 120 to 107

They were in control for the majority of the game, and never seemed to sweat the many runs by the Celtics. Lebron James finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds. He and Chris Bosh cleaned the boards for Miami with 20 out of the 31 total rebounds for the Heat. Rebounding could prove to be a problem for the Heat if they hope to repeat this year.

Speaking of a repeat, before the game was the ring ceremony for the Champion Miami Heat players of 2011. To begin the ceremony David Stern showed his age when recognizing the victims of Hurricane Sandy by saying "Katrina" instead. After Stern finally finished, they presented the rings.

"Its amazing, its like my first born, " said James to TNT reporters after the ceremony. The rings hold not 5, not 6, but 219 diamonds each. The same number as the age of Kevin Garnett. Maybe not, but it sure seemed like it the way he was playing.

Garnett finished with 9 points and a very cold shoulder when Ray Allen came over to greet him.

Allen and the Celtics had much drama including his role being downgraded as he was forced to the bench for guard Avery Bradley. After a season of flux and the Celtics actually trying to trade him, Allen signed with Miami in the off-season. This absolutely pissed the Celtics off.

Allen proved the Celtics made a mistake the second he hit the court. Allen sunk his first shot which happened to be a shot clock buzzer-beater in the corner. It was in classic Ray Allen fashion as the buzzer rang and the ball hit the bottom of the net. Miami fans instantly fell in love. From there, I could see the rivalry between Boston and Miami intensify.

From then on it was pretty much all Miami. Dwyane Wade finished with 29 points, but seemed to be forcing the issue for much of the game. Wade was playing like someone who had something to prove, which is a step up from the nonchalant performance he had vs. the Pacers last year. However, Wade and Haslem, the only two players left from the 2006 championship team, were the only two players with a negative plus/minus number.

For the Celtics, they proved to be very deep, just not strong enough. The Celtics roster looks very nice as they have the best bench in the NBA. The play of Jason Terry was great as usual. Barbosa stepped up to the plate with 16 off the bench, and Courtney Lee fit into the offense pretty well.

What We Learned

There Will Be Blood

The Celtics and Heat hate each other. They are going to have many great battles within these next two years as this rivalry is looks to be the heart of the Eastern Conference. Miami is definitely the superior in the match-ups, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Celtics didn't take a few at home. Also,  don't think Wade is going to forget about that Rondo chokehold at the end of the game anytime soon.

Celtics Offense Is Looking good

Paul Pierce is still a good scorer (and a sissy) but he doesn't have to be. The additions of Jason Terry and the comeback of Jeff Green should take much of the offensive burden off Pierces back. With Rondo facilitating that offense, the Celtics look to be in good shape to finish with a top 3 seed in the East.

Miami Will Force Teams To Adapt

Miami's small ball style forced the Celtics to get out and run much more than they are used to. The Celtics seemed to be playing out of their game and it resulted in Miami scoring 120 points. The Celtics only allowed teams to peak 100, 57 times out of 66 last year. The Heat had their way and in the end had the victory.

Also, congratulations to Dwyane Wade for scoring his 15,000th point.

The Fall of Black Quarterbacks

Cam Newton in another loss

There are 5 Black Starting Quarterbacks, but 0 with a winning record

The collective record for Black Starting Quarterbacks in the NFL this year is 13-23. That is a mere 36% winning percentage, and none of them have a winning record. Maybe "fall" is a bit dramatic, but this is definitely a step in the wrong direction.

This is a step that they can not afford to take in a league where they are already a minority.

In 2011, 65% of Starting Quarterbacks on the college level were African American. In that same year only 12.5% of NFL quarterbacks were black.

Those statistics could be because many black quarterbacks are dual threat and that is perceived to be "high risk" by many NFL coaches. No matter the cause, the stats don't lie and black quarterbacks are the minority.

This leaves little room for error for players that made it such as Michael Vick, Cam Newton, and Robert Griffin III, who are all currently under .500 this year.

The Black QB with the best record is Russell Wilson. This is a rookie who didn't find out he was going to be starting until the end of the Pre-season, and now he's the pride of Black QBs in the NFL.

But it is also not always to the fault of the quarterbacks. In the cases of Josh Freeman and RGIII, they are having exceptional seasons statistically, but their teams are somewhat letting them down.

Last week Griffin made a great drive to put the Redskins ahead of the Giants with under 2 minutes to go, but his defense failed him by allowing the Giants to score on a bomb to Victor Cruz.

That being said, not all of the blame is on these African-American Starting Quarterbacks, but playing quarterback in the NFL, you get most of the glory or most of the criticism. And as of late, they have been receiving much of the latter.

This is not an attack on such quarterbacks, but a challenge for them to step up their recently sub-par play.

New Anti-Ginobli Rule

NBA cracking down on flopping

Ralph Freso, AP

"Flops have no place in our game," said in a written statement by Stu Jackson, the NBA's Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations. "They either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call.

For this reason David Stern has decided to make an attempt at eliminating flops in the NBA.

If a player flops in the regular season, he will be hit first with a warning. Then every flop thereafter will cost the player a concurring fine of 5,000$. The fines increase to a lump sum of $30,000 for a fifth flop. I applaud the effort but this is down right ridiculous.

To attempt to decipher rather or not a player faked a fall, and to then attempt make a case that they owe the league money is insane. I am a fan of flopping leaving the league--along with Manu Ginobili and Paul Pierce, but this might not be the proper way to do so.

This is another rule that will cause controversy and player disapproval. Im sure David Stern is not going to lose any sleep over it because it has become way too common for players to go for Emmy awards instead of MVPs. You know flopping is the culture of the NBA when it is now a new move in NBA 2k13.

This shows just how prevalent this flopping epidemic is and it needs to be put to an end. Along with grown men wearing capris.

Who Dat?

Whats Wrong with the Saints!?

The New Orleans Saints opened this 2012 NFL season with two losses to beatable opponents.

This leaves Who Dat Nation screaming "Who dat!!?"

This time not speaking from the phrases roots in support of the Saints "Who dat talking about beating them Saints."

Now the Saints fans are wondering "Who dat at quarterback throwing two interceptions per game," or "Who dat leaving gaping holes in the secondary."

In their season opener they were torched by rookie quarterback, Robert Griffin III. Then in week two Cam Newton and the Panthers beat them in Carolina. Both QBs struggled in the follow

This is the first time since 2007 that the Saints opened with two losses. On a positive note the saints will host the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend, and if the Saints have been bad the Chiefs have been abysmal.

The main problems for the Saints are on the defensive side of the ball. They have not been able to contain the fast-paced offenses they have faced. They have given up 75 points in 2 games to offenses led by quarterbacks with about 17 games of experience combined.

Some want to directly relate this to the Saints turmoiled off-season, but they are just being out-preformed. This is still a playoff capable team and they need to stop using the past as an excuse but use it as motivation.

The players won the legal battle and are able to play, and they still have their most important piece in Drew Brees. Though Brees has struggled so far, I expect him to figure things out without Sean Payton this season. The defense may continue to struggle without Payton's witty mid-game adjustments, but once the offense gets rolling the Saints shouldn't have much to worry about.

The Saints haven't hit rock bottom yet, but they may want to pick it up if they plan on contending this season.

Brooklyn Nets New Arena

Brooklyn Nets brand new Arena: Barclays Center. (Photo via www.nba.com/nets)

Barclays Center looking nice

Photos from the Brooklyn Nets new arena, Barclays Center, are looking good. The new look Nets did not just make a huge transformation off the court, but they also changed their identity on the court.

The Nets weren't able to acquire their main target, Dwight Howard, but they added a scorer in Joe Johnson to the backcourt with Deron Williams. Couple that with the trade deadline deal for Gerald Wallace last year and their back court looks nice.

Brooklyn was also able to keep the young center Brook Lopez. He has developed well over the years, but will he be enough to make the Nets a relevant playoff contender this year? That is a question that won't be answered until we see how coach, Avery Johnson manages the team.

One thing for sure is I'm a huge fan of the new logo and arena. It looks fitting for the city and the team. Its simple yet classy. Let me know how you feel about Barclay Center and the Brooklyn Nets chances this year.

The Nike Takeover

Nike is at it again

We have witnessed Nike takeover College football, and recently the NFL. They have always been prominent in soccer along with adidas, but this new uniform design for USA soccer is top of the line. I love the new sleek American flag look. At first glance they look like a rugby team, but it adds flavor and appeal and makes them stand out.

Comment below your thoughts on the change.

Third Time Not the Charm

Freshman, Michael Lyle and Brian Hicks

Hampton University Pirates fall short to ODU, again.

The Hampton University football team lost 45-7 to Old Dominion University in its home opener at Armstrong Stadium this past Saturday.

In a sell-out game with over 17,000 pairs of eager eyes hovering, Old Dominion’s passing attack led by standout quarterback, Taylor Heinicke proved to be too much for the Hampton Pirates.

ODU struck early and often, and by the midway point, they were in complete control leading 28-7. After a great halftime performance by the Blue Thunder, many Hampton students who were engulfed with energy and excitement in the beginning were discontent with the teams play and were pouring out of the stadium.

“The beginning of the game was live, but it wasn’t too fun watching the other team score,” said HU senior, Jennifer Jackson. Nevertheless, the match went on and nothing seemed to change.

This year HU looked to finally actualize a possible rivalry between themselves and ODU by commanding a win in their 2012 home opener. An enthusiastic campus lined up to witness sophomore quarterback, Travis Champion lead the Hampton to a possible victory. There were six students parading in blue body suits as chants rang throughout the stadium.

The game ended early due to lightning with ODU on top. The two teams had only played twice since ODU reignited their football program in 2009 after 69 years of absence.

Though ODU’s team had the best two-year start in FCS history, Hampton played them fairly tough in their first two meetings. In 2010 ODU won 28-14, and in 2011 ODU won in shootout form 45-42. The third time proved to not be the charm for the Hampton Pirates, but students are still hopeful for better performances in the near future.

“I wasn’t too happy with the outcome, but hopefully students keep coming out to the games. The more we show up and show love to the team, the better they play out on the field.” Sophomore hip hop artist, Jamaal Grant said. “As an entertainer I know how crowd energy can translate into a better performance.”

Starting Rookie QB Breakdown

Andrew Luck
Projected stats: 15 Tds, 14 Ints.Projected record: 3-13

Andrew Luck is being placed into a tough spot in Indianapolis.
Reggie Wayne is the only threat in a sea of mediocre talent.  Competing in the worst division in the AFC could help, but the Colts still look to be the bottom feeders of the AFC South. He has a very questionable offensive line. Luck's career looks promising but I don't expect him to have a standout rookie season. The only thing that could make his situation worse is if he had high expectations and was replacing a Superbowl winning, four-time MVP, future hall-of-fame quarterback. Good he's only replacing some guy named Peyton Manning.

Robert Griffin III
Projected stats: 17 Tds 11 Ints. Projected record: 6-10

RG3's first season with the Redskins will be compared to Cam Newton's astounding rookie season last year. The record setting standard Newton set for dual threat quarterbacks is downright unfair. Playing in the most competitive division is another boulder in his path. Other than that Griffin looks to be in a decent position. A solid defense should take some pressure off his back. The Redskins are also equipped with a solid running back in Roy Helu Jr. These factors should propel him to a solid rookie season. Mike Shanahan's creative and flexible offense will afford Griffin the opportunity to get out of the pocket and make the highlight plays we love to see. Watching RG3 nation in Washington will be enticing, but I don't expect to see a playoff berth any time soon.

Ryan Tannehill
Projected stats: 9 Tds 16 Ints. Projected record: 5-11

I am a bit worried about Ryan Tannehill being thrown to the wolves in the AFC East. Miami has a solid team around Tannehill, but he is not polished as a quarterback to be a winner yet in the NFL. Another strike against him is the division he is in. The defenses in the AFC East are built to stop the pass and force turnovers. Tannehill's strong arm and great athleticism will make a few plays for the Dolphins. It also doesn't hurt to have Reggie Bush in your backfield.

 Russell Wilson
Projected stats: 17 Tds 12 Ints Projected record: 6-10

Russell Wilson is a surprise starting rookie quarterback. He shined in the pre-season and took over the starting spot for Seattle. I love the athleticism Wilson brings to the table, and though people are frightened by his size, he seems to have the skills to make it. His decent accuracy should help the Seahawks win a few games in a struggling division. One key for Wilson this year should be to continue to turn around and hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch in the backfield. You can never go wrong giving the ball to a man with such a nickname as "beast mode." I mean how could you lose while sporting neon green.

Brandon Weeden
Projected stats:8 Tds 12 Ints.Projected record:4-12

Weeden failed to score a single touchdown in the preseason, and the season is not looking too promising. You would think a 28-year old rookie quarterback would be the most NFL-ready, but he honestly is not prepared to win in a division with the Steelers and Ravens. Another strike against Weeden is the lack of weapons around him. The biggest threat on that side of the ball in Cleveland is rookie running back, Trent Richardson. He provides the Browns with a workhorse back they thought they had in Peyton Hillis. All in all, Brandon Weeden and the Browns are going to have a rebuilding year. Classic Cleveland ball team.

Notre Dame New Uniforms

Hate it or Love it?

Nike "Gold Digging" Shirt called "Sexist"

Is Nike's "Gold Digging" Shirt Sexist or Supportive?

Nike released this shirt with the label "Gold Digging" to stores recently in support of the success of the USA women olympians. This shirt is being called sexist because the term gold digger is not looked highly upon. Urban Dictionary defines a gold digger as "Any woman whose primary interest in a relationship is material benefits. A woman who cares more about a man's bank account than she does about the man. "  Nike labeled the shirts gold digger in light of the many gold medals that were brought home from London this Summer. The main problem people are having with the shirt is the fact that it is only made for women.

Nike was an official outfitter for the London Olympics, so they put out many apparel. None getting criticized as much as this one. Certain women feel the shirt condescends the effort of the women athletes that achieved their golds though hard work. The term gold digging makes it seem as if they did not have to work for it.

In my opinion people need to pull their emotions out of it and take the shirt and term at face value. Nike is known for having catchy shirts with short, witty sayings on them. This is just another example of one that people are taking out of context. We first need to look at what the term gold digging actually means, and not the urban saying that comes to mind when it is said. The act of gold digging is just what it implies, digging for gold. What did the female athletes do at the olympics? They fought, competed, and in a way dug, for their hard earned gold medals.

Looking at it this way, I give Nike the pass as they were just trying to find a witty way to refer to the success of the women in London. The only fault Nike had was the fact that they did not make the shirt for men also. This is what made it seem sexist, but Nike tends to have different sayings on their men's and women's shirts. Though Nike knew what they were doing by putting "Gold digging" on the women's shirts, I believe anyone who gets offended by this is just looking for something to offend them. This shirt is definitely going to continue to make headlines, but  all in all Nike made these shirts to support our women, not attack their work ethic.

Comment below what you think about Nike's racy shirts, and vote on the polls to the right.

Lebron James Makes History, Again

Lebron James bullying the poor Australian defender

Lebron James posts first triple double in Team USA Basketball history

It is safe to say Lebron James is the most dominant basketball player in the world today, and he showed it this afternoon against Australia. James posted the first ever triple double for Team USA in Olympic history. America has hosted greats like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, and Kobe Bryant , but never have any of them reached the stat line James put up. He finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. These are the stat lines that we are used to seeing from him in the NBA (with a few more points), but it is more uncommon in FIBA play.

As for the way the game played out, Team USA did away with Australia fairly easily. Like I expected, The Australians kept it within reach for the first half or so, but with the help of Kobe Bryant channeling his inner Afro Kobe, Team USA eliminated Patty Mills and Australia 119-86. Kobe Bryant got hot and hit about 3 straight 3-pointers back to back within the span of a minute. This proved how dominant Team USA can be. They have so many players who can look unstoppable at anytime, and Bryant was the one who showed up and showed off this time.

Team USA takes on Argentina this Friday and this is a must-see. Argentina will put up a tough fight, but they lack the skill and star power to actually beat the Americans. Another thing to look out for is the foul play that Argentina is notorious for. This is why I hope America lays the pipe down on them and never lets up. Nevertheless this will be a fun game to watch and expect Team USA to easily make it to the finals against Spain/Russia.

Michael Phelps, Greatest Olympian Ever

Michael Phelps, Most decorated Olympian of all time. (22 total medals, 18 gold)

Michael Phelps is the Greatest Olympian of All time

Jamaica, Argentina, India, Iran, Czech Republic, North Korea, Mexico, and Egypt. What do these major countries all have in common? Less gold medals all-time than the great Michael Phelps. Surprised? Well I have a couple more statistics for you. The country of Mexico has had a whopping 21 total medals since 1988. Phelps has had 22 since 2004. You know that great country above America, Canada. Well since 1996 Canada has had a grand total of 13 gold medals. That is 5 less than the 18 golds Michael has garnered in that same time period.

When Michael Phelps got out of the water in London for the last time there was a funny feeling in the air. The same as when Michael Jordan retired...the second time. Or when Ali hung up the gloves and when Gretzky took off the skates. As a fan we feel saddened to watch a great hang it up, but for the competitors in the respective sports, there is a sigh of relief. Now that Michael Phelps is done swimming, other people actually have a chance to win. There is now room for the next big star in swimming, and I'm anxious to see who it will be.

After looking over those statistics and witnessing his greatness over the past 3 Olympics, it is hard to not say he is the greatest Olympian of all time. If you believe there is anyone else that can be called the greatest olympian of all time, please comment and let me know.

Why USA Basketball Will Go Undefeated

First off, Team USA Basketball is not the Dream Team. The commentators and analysts of the Olympics are really annoying me when they say things like "Kevin Durant of the Dream Team." There was only one Dream Team and that was the team of 1992. That is no knock at all to this year's team which is still overall great, just not as dominant or great as the Dream Team. Now let me step off my soapbox and get to the point:

Team USA Basketball will go undefeated

As for all of the questions surrounding this team and their lack of size, I have one answer for all of those questions. Lebron James. It seems that whenever Team USA is in need of a key bucket or a run, King James comes up big. He has taken his championship winning mindset to London and oppositions beware. The only difference is instead of an injured Dyane Wade he has Kevin Durant in his prime. Instead of his pet dinosaur, Chris Bosh, he has Carmelo Anthony. Instead of broke back Mike Miller he has a rejuvenated Kobe. If you are wondering why Kobe is so rejuvenated let's just say it might not have much to do with his wife Vanessa. I hear Kobe has been having more than his share of fun in the Olympic Village this year.
Kobe didn't become the second leading scorer by just sitting around
Or did he?

However that is besides the point. This USA team may lack the size that the other international teams have, but I would take Lebron, Kobe, and Durant over the Gasol brothers and Ibaka any day. America is too good on the defensive side of the ball and too prolific of scorers to lose this year. What they lack in size they make up for with speed and athleticism. This team is not the sort of team that is going to blowout every team they face. They just don't have the dominance in the paint to do so. They are built to run teams, and that is what they have been doing so far this summer.

When Team USA is on we see 83-point blowouts. Poor Nigeria. And when they are not hitting shots like they would like it turns into close games. The problem for other teams is the fact that Team USA is going to be tough to beat in the closing minutes. Lithuania gave the Americans a scare, but Lebron took over in the 4th quarter to lead Team USA to victory. Lebron will continue to show up when he is needed, and America will not lose a game this summer. Even with all of the hype surrounding them, they are poised to win gold and there is no team strong enough to get in their way.
Expect to see this again soon.

Team USA has an upcoming showdown with Argentina this Monday to complete pool play and I expect this one not to be close. Argentina is led by San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili, and they have a pretty decent squad around him. And by decent I mean dirty. This is going to be physical and trying game, but America has the more skilled athletes and Argentina does not stand a chance.

Make sure you tune in to watch Team USA take on Argentina Monday, August 6.

London 2012 Olympics Medal Count and Prediction

(Medal Count as of August 2nd, 12:34)

The United States of America just surpassed China in total medals, but that is not good enough for America. The next goal is to finally close the gap China holds over the US in gold medals. The lead is down to three which won't be an easy task, but America should be able to make the push with track and field starting up this afternoon and the swimming finals coming to a close.
USA women's 4x200m swimming gold medalists
Though the Chinese have improved at swimming this Olympics, they still have a disadvantage against America. Look for Rebecca Soni to win the women's 200m breaststroke final this afternoon, and it is a lock for the men to pull out at least 2 more gold medals. Then Missy Franklin is looking to be the favorite for the women's 200m backstroke. With athletes like Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Missy Franklin, The USA should feel comfortable finishing strong in London.

Michael Phelps
Also Track and Field is starting soon and The USA have proven strong in the past Olympics. Just last year Team USA won 7 gold medals compared to China's whopping 0 on the track. Though we have the edge here, China will continue to win gold in those events that we have never heard of. Thus making the gold medal gap almost as hard to close as the national debt we owe them. Let's just hope America can win the gold medal count these Olympics so we can credit 2008 to China's home court advantage. Spoiler Alert!! America will finish on top, but have fun watching the rest of London 2012. As long as the Brazil stays strong in beach volleyball, I know I will. (If you dare to google "Brazil Beach Volleyball", please be prepared to erase your internet history.)

Can't finish this post without congratulating the fab five! I heard they won Gold in gymnastics. Thats a great feat at their age.

Expectations for Tim Tebow in 2012

Tim Tebow at Jets camp. (251 lbs)
Tim Tebow entered the Jets Training camp looking like he had been eating footbals rather than throwing them. He weighed in at 251 lbs but was only 1-7 in passing attempts. Not only is that the highest playing weight for him ever, but it is also more than head coach Rex Ryan who lost over 100 lbs this past off-season. Tebow is definitely bulked up to be an impact for his team in many ways other than starting quarterback, but here are a few ways I see Tim Tebow giving the Jets a push in their pursuit of the elusive Lombardi trophy (Or at least the playoffs).

  1. Tim Tebow will pressure Mark Sanchez to improve his play over the regular season. Sanchez has always come up big on the big stage, but it has been his carless regular season play that has been the death of himself and the Jets. Sanchez has a history of being in the spotlight going from starter at USC to starter in New York, so he definitely knows how to handle it. The only problem with Sanchez is at times he seems complacent. With Tebow behind him, he will not be able to settle for mediocre because his starting job is no longer a guarantee.
  2. Tebow will also put a stress on defenses that cannot be measured in numbers. The intangible of having Tebow on the field is going to be detrimental for defenses. Whenever he touches the field the focus has to go on him and that will allow the Jets to be sneaky and tricky on offence especially with Tony Sparano at Offensive coordinator. (He was the HC for the Miami dolphins 2008-2011 when they ran the wildcat offence.)
  3. Tim Tebow will also give them an inside running game with their wildcat that Brad Smith could not give them a couple years ago.  Tebow will have ample success on offence when he comes in with the wildcat offence and will go for multiple touchdowns.
  4. In the goal line, if the Jets are bold enough to use him there, Tebow could be dominant. He is also a dynamic player if you want to take the risk of going for a 2-point conversion. Tebow is a beast and is the hardest QB to tackle in the NFL today. Look for him to make big plays followed by a prayer in these situations.

Tim Tebow is a class act and a very impactful player. I’m looking forward to watching him succeed this upcoming year with the Jets, but if he wants to eventually become a starting quarterback, 1-7 throwing  in training camp is not going to cut it.

Tuesday's Top 5: Top 5 NFL Wide Recievers

5. Victor Cruz

Victor Cruz is an electrifying receiver with the New York Giants but he barely made this list. Cruz cracked the list due to his big play ability and the way he carried the Giants offence this past year. Cruz cruised to many touchdowns and though he has his flops, he also had his many highlights which landed him the 5 spot.

4. Wes Welker

Wes Welker has been the most reliable receiver over the past few years. He led the league in receptions by far with 122 this past season and was very consistent game to game. However he is more of a product of a great quarterback and a system than a great receiver which is why he only gets the number 4 spot on my list.

3. Larry Fitzgerald

Larry Fitzgerald is an astounding receiver and athletic specimen. When the ball is in the air and he is around there is no question who will come down with it. These past few seasons Fitzgerald has been without an adequate quarterback and his stats have suffered. With that being said there is no question the Fitz that gives courners fits is still a top 3 receiver in the NFL still today.

2. Andre Johnson

Pay no attention to Andre Johnson’s stats last year. He was injured and missed many games. Also he played banged up in most games last season. Andre Johnson still has top speed, great leaping ability, amazing hands, and a great frame. He also has great character and plays every play like it’s his last and he’s a product of the U (University of Miami, when it was actually the U).

1. Calvin Johnson

Megatron is the most dynamic athlete in the NFL today. He is 6’5” and runs like a cheetah. He is a touchdown machine and has some of the best hands in the NFL. Calvin is also very hard to stop after the catch and is so multi-dimensional. He at times looks like the definition of unstoppable. Megatron is and will be the best receiver in the league for a long time coming.
